More than 35 per cent of women will experience a sleep orgasm before the age of 45 – find out how you can as well

A ‘sleep orgasm’ may seem a distant fantasy – but it is much more common than you realise.

The phenomenon, where you wake up climaxing, is not just a regular pleasure for hormonal teenagers.

Around 37 per cent of women will climax while dozing by the age of 45, according to researchers.

It occurs primarily in women aged between their 40s and mid-50s, Broadly reports.

Jade, 24, told the magazine sleep orgasms can occur a couple of times a week, with or without the help of self-pleasure.

She said: “It’s a bit like a present from your brain.”

There are a number of ways your chances of having a sleep orgasm can be increased.

These include lying on your front when you sleep, being particularly tired before bed and when you haven’t experienced an orgasm for awhile.

Kinky thoughts as you’re nodding off also increase the likelihood.

Researchers and writers for The Orgasm Answer Guide say: “There is good reason to believe that orgasms while sleeping are not, in fact, the result of genital stimulation, but instead are created in the brain.”

Only 25 per cent of women consistently orgasmic during sexual intercourse, with experts stating that is much more complex for women than men.

But Dr Debby Herbenick, associate professor at Indiana University , told Broadly: “Orgasms generally gets easier with age and experience, and when women have sex with regular partners who they feel care about them, thus we see higher rates of orgasm among those in their mid to late 20s, 30s, and 40s.”

10 Tips For The Perfect Nights Sleep

Healthy sleep habits can make a big difference in your quality of life. Having healthy sleep habits is often referred to as having good “sleep hygiene.”

Try to keep the following sleep practices on a consistent basis:

1 – Stick to the same bedtime and wake up time, even on the weekends. This helps to regulate your body’s clock and could help you fall asleep and stay asleep for the night.

2 – Practice a relaxing bedtime ritual.
A relaxing, routine activity right before bedtime conducted away from bright lights helps separate your sleep time from activities that can cause excitement, stress or anxiety which can make it more difficult to fall asleep, get sound and deep sleep or remain asleep.

3 – Avoid naps, especially in the afternoon.
Power napping may help you get through the day, but if you find that you can’t fall asleep at bedtime, eliminating even short catnaps may help.

4 – Exercise daily.
Vigorous exercise is best, but even light exercise is better than no activity. Exercise at any time of day, but not at the expense of your sleep.

5 – Evaluate your room.
Design your sleep environment to establish the conditions you need for sleep. Your bedroom should be cool – between 60 and 67 degrees. Your bedroom should also be free from any noise that can disturb your sleep. Finally, your bedroom should be free from any light. Check your room for noises or other distractions. This includes a bed partner’s sleep disruptions such as snoring. Consider using blackout curtains, eye shades, ear plugs, “white noise” machines, humidifiers, fans and other devices.

6 – Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows.
Make sure your mattress is comfortable and supportive. The one you have been using for years may have exceeded its life expectancy – about 9 or 10 years for most good quality mattresses. Have comfortable pillows and make the room attractive and inviting for sleep but also free of allergens that might affect you and objects that might cause you to slip or fall if you have to get up during the night.

7- Use bright light to help manage your circadian rhythms.
Avoid bright light in the evening and expose yourself to sunlight in the morning. This will keep your circadian rhythms in check.

8 – Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and heavy meals in the evening.
Alcohol, cigarettes and caffeine can disrupt sleep. Eating big or spicy meals can cause discomfort from indigestion that can make it hard to sleep. It is good to finish eating at least 2-3 hours before bedtime.

9 – Wind down. Your body needs time to shift into sleep mode, so spend the last hour before bed doing a calming activity such as reading. For some people, using an electronic device such as a laptop can make it hard to fall asleep, because the particular type of light emanating from the screens of these devices is activating to the brain. If you have trouble sleeping, avoid electronics before bed or in the middle of the night.

10 – If you can’t sleep, go into another room and do something relaxing until you feel tired. It is best to take work materials, computers and televisions out of the sleeping environment. Use your bed only for sleep and sex to strengthen the association between bed and sleep. If you associate a particular activity or item with anxiety about sleeping, omit it from your bedtime routine.

If you’re still having trouble sleeping, don’t hesitate to speak with your doctor or to find a sleep professional. You may also benefit from recording your sleep in a Sleep Diary to help you better evaluate common patterns or issues you may see with your sleep or sleeping habits.

Sleeping selfie: Picture of ambulance control room worker asleep on the job is leaked by whistleblower

A ‘sleeping selfie’ has been leaked by a whistleblower showing an ambulance control room worker asleep on the job.

The image of performance manager Kim Fullerton getting 40 winks was leaked by a whistle blower to the Liverpool Echo newspaper.

It could not be verified whether Ms Fullerton was actually asleep, or if the photo was a staged joke.

Ambulance dispatcher Daniel Manning, who is not believed to be the whistle blower, also appears smiling in the photo taken at Elm House in Anfield, Liverpool, however this would be considered a less serious offence as staff on night shifts are encouraged to walk around and talk to colleagues to stave off fatigue.

Although Ms Fullerton’s job as a performance manager is to monitor activity and performance, meaning she does not personally take any emergency calls, North West Ambulance Service have said sleeping on the job in her position is unacceptable and a full investigation will be launched.

Michael Forrest, director of organisational development for North West Ambulance Service said: ‘The NWAS takes any allegation about the conduct of its staff extremely seriously and has launched a full investigation into the circumstances in which this picture was taken.’

Meet me at the Owl-tar! Romantic bird fails to deliver wedding rings, falls asleep in church roof

It was supposed to come sweeping down in a magnificent display of elegance.

However, an owl, which should have delivered rings to a couple at the foot of the aisle on their wedding day, instead flew up into the church rafters and fell asleep for an hour.

The service, in the Holy Cross Church in Sherston, Wiltshire, had to be halted while desperate helpers tried – and failed – to coax the barn owl down.

The owl, named Darcey, had other ideas and felt that the corner was far too cosy.

Having fallen asleep for an hour, with red ribbons still attached to its feet, Reverend Chris Bryan decided not to sit through the pause, but continued with a set of back-up wedding rings until the bird felt ready to descend.
